Overview
This eight-week workshop introduces the foundational techniques of handbuilding, exploring ways to shape clay without the use of a wheel.
Students will learn methods such as coil, slab, and pinch construction while developing an understanding of structure, surface, and form. The course moves through the full ceramic process — forming, refining, glazing, and firing — with an emphasis on building objects gradually over multiple sessions.
Working at the table rather than the wheel allows for a wider range of shapes and expressive forms, encouraging students to experiment while developing technical control.
What You’ll Work On
– Coil, slab, and pinch construction techniques
– Building and joining clay forms
– Creating vessels, sculptural forms, and functional objects
– Refining structure and surface
– Glazing and firing finished work
Who It’s For
Open to beginners as well as returning students interested in developing their ceramic practice over a longer term.
Tuition $480 includes:
• Studio tools and equipment
• Glazes and firings
• 12.5 lb clay
Additional clay available for purchase.
Studio may photograph workshops and residents unless requested otherwise.
